I have the pleasure of being invited to a screening of the new movie “Hacksaw Ridge” in New York City this past week. Now I need to preface my thoughts by saying my idea of a good movie is “Finding Dory”. Suffice to say this movie was not of that genre. I won’t watch National Geographic for fear I will see animals eat animals. With all that having been said, this movie, “Hacksaw Ridge” was an unbelievable testimony to what living out one’s faith looks and feels like. When I think of the title of my book, “If You’re a Christian and Everyone Likes You…Something’s Wrong”, Desmond Doss, the main character, was intensely disliked for just that reason…he was a Christian, living out his faith on the battlefield. I don’t want to give too much away because I want everyone to see it.
Are you willing to swim against the current of today’s culture and stand up for Jesus and for the truth of His word? It won’t be easy, nor should it be. In Matthew 10:22, Jesus says, “You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” If you’re thinking life as a believer will or should be easy, think again. But you have the Lord to walk beside you on the journey and to carry you when you fall.
