Where Do You Go When Nothing Makes Sense?

July 21st, 2016|Uncategorized|0 Comments

People like order. We like to know where things are, even in what may appear to be chaos to others…to us, we know where everything is. We like answers. We don’t like uncertainty. Just ask McDonalds that has had the almost the same menu for all eternity and they all look the same. We like that. I know the feeling. I don’t like that they are messing with Oreos. They were fine as they were. I knew what I was getting. Now I have 12 choices. No! Leave them alone. We are living in uncertain and very turbulent times. Each day brings its new tragedy, whether here of abroad. Our world is on fire. Well I am personally acquainted with [...]

The Color of Love

July 13th, 2016|Love|0 Comments

There has been a lot of talk going around that Dionne Warwick was right, “What the World Needs Now is Love”. It has been suggested that the best weapon against those from around the world that wish to harm (kill) us is to love them. As we have witnessed brutal and senseless killings, we hear cries that we need to get along, love and understand each other. Is this the case, or are we whistling in the dark? I can never understand what it is like to be a young black man any more than he can understand what it’s like to be an older white woman. But we both know what love looks and feels like. It is having [...]

Where Have You Put Your Hope?

July 6th, 2016|Hope|0 Comments

I hope you get the job, I hope to see you again, I hope you pass your test…I hope, I hope, I hope. We all probably use the word hope a lot more than we realize. As it says in Romans 8:24, “Hope always means waiting for something we do not yet possess.” Where have you put your hope? We are told in I Timothy 6:17, “Tell those who are rich in this present world not to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain.” I have often said it is very easy to have faith when to have money in the bank. Unfortunately, we live in a culture where self-sufficiency is the goal, independence, needing no one but [...]

Forgiving the Unforgiveable

June 30th, 2016|forgiveness|0 Comments

For reason I can’t quite explain this title for my blog this week as it kept rolling around in my head. So as those of you who have read my book, “If You’re a Christian and Everyone Likes You…Something’s Wrong”, I head straight to either Google of my trusty dictionary. In this case it was Google. I typed in the title and boom, up popped multiple titles exactly like mine. Ok, so maybe I don’t have original thoughts. I knew that already. However, seeing so all of those search results told me that forgiving in itself is hard, but being asked to forgive the unforgiveable is harder. From a Biblical perspective, there is only one unforgiveable sin, blaspheming the Holy [...]

There is no Satisfactory WHY?

June 17th, 2016|Uncategorized|0 Comments

I believe most of us will agree there hasn’t been any lack of discourse and opinion regarding the shootings in Orlando. But when things like this happen we also often hear questions about where God is when these things happen. Why were 49 people senselessly murdered? The answer is both simple and complex at the same time. The simple, “religious” answer is SIN. That answer is both simple and trite and says really nothing about the depth and cause of the tragedy. Most people are willing to recognize the existence of sin regardless of how you define it. But to put all this evil in the sin basket is too easy. The more complex answer is that we have been [...]

And the Winner Is…

June 9th, 2016|Uncategorized|0 Comments

We all know that the three topics we never discuss in polite company are sex, religion and politics. It is almost impossible to avoid the topic of politics today if you are still breathing. We are a divided country, an angry country, a mistrusting country and a country in more trouble than who will be our next president. The problem as I see it is we have put and continue to put out trust and faith in men/women. Psalm 118:8 says “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” We keep being let down and disappointed in those we have trusted to do the right thing. So maybe it’s time to stop. Of course [...]

Memorial Day

May 30th, 2016|Uncategorized|0 Comments

Today is Memorial Day 2016. A day set aside every year to honor and remember those who have fought for and died in the effort to secure and maintain our freedom. One day that is supposed to be sufficient for a life cut short, a family forever altered, a child left without a parent, a parent losing a child, a spouse losing a life partner. And so it is with the death of Jesus. We remember His death on Good Friday (and I’ve never been sure what is Good about it) and celebrate His resurrection on Easter. Unlike our soldiers, Jesus rose from the dead. The death of Christ allows those who so choose to live a life of freedom, [...]
